Our 2023 Arsenal summer coverage begins with a discussion of the new contracts that William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli have all either signed or are planning on signing with the Gunners. All of these new contracts are great for the future of Arsenal Football Club. Let’s start discussing these new contracts and what they mean for Arsenal.
2023 Arsenal Summer Coverage: Bukayo Saka Commits Long-Term to Arsenal
Bukayo Saka signed a new contract with Arsenal recently in late May of this year. This new contract means that Saka is signed with Arsenal until 2027. Securing Saka until then is a fantastic way to continue preparing for a summer transfer window that promises to be quite busy for the Gunners.
Saka contributed 14 goals and 11 assists in the 2022-23 season. He was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Young Player of the Season award. Saka is a budding superstar and ensuring that Saka will remain with Arsenal until at least 2027 will boost Arsenal’s chances of winning major silverware in future seasons.
Gabriel Martinelli Also Signed a New Deal with Arsenal
Martinelli signed a new deal with Arsenal back in February. Like Saka’s new contract, Martinelli’s new deal keeps him with Arsenal until 2027. Martinelli’s new deal also includes an option for an additional year.
Gabriel Martinelli contributed 15 goals and five assists in the Premier League during the 2022-23 season. Like Saka, Martinelli is only 21 years old and his best years should still be ahead of him. This new deal means that Arsenal will retain their best wingers until at least 2027. As a result, Arsenal can focus on adding depth to the first-team squad instead of worrying about retaining Saka and Martinelli long-term.
2023 Arsenal Summer Coverage: William Saliba Has Verbally Recommitted to Arsenal As Well
William Saliba has also agreed in principle to a new four-year contract with Arsenal, which will last until 2027. The Gunners are formalizing paperwork in order to complete this new deal with the club’s French defender. Saliba only had about 12 months left on his previous deal.
Saliba’s future at Arsenal was slightly more unclear, given that the 2022-23 season was the first season he got significant playing for the first-team squad since he signed for Arsenal in 2019. However, Saliba did very well in his first season of Premier League football and his injury was a significant blow to Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title.
Saliba is only 22 years old and now has almost a whole season of Premier League experience. As a result, he should only improve even further under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta. An official announcement of this new contract for Saliba should happen soon and it will be great to see that announcement when it does come.
Arsenal Looks to Continue Securing Its Future with More New Contracts for Current Players
Aaron Ramsdale has also signed a new contract with Arsenal. The Gunners are said to be working on new contracts for several other first-team players, as well. It is great to see Arsenal focus on retaining its best players now before turning their full attention to bringing in new players to strengthen the squad ahead of next season. I would bet that Arsenal will finish in the top four next season, at worst.
