In our previous article, we covered Myles Lewis-Skelly’s new contract and Zubimendi’s imminent arrival, among other things. Now, Arsenal has officially announced the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Without further ado, let’s dive into this and other topics in our Arsenal summer business part 2 article.
Arsenal Summer Business Part 2: Arsenal Announce Kepa
The Gunners announced that Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined the club. Arsenal acquires Kepa for five million pounds from Chelsea. This is a sensible transfer.
Kepa is only 30 years old and should be a capable backup goalkeeper to David Raya. Additionally, Kepa helped Bournemouth have the sixth-best defense in the Premier League last season. Also, this move provides quality depth at a vital position for Arsenal at a low cost. It makes plenty of sense for all sides.
Takehiro Tomiyasu Leaves Arsenal
Another recent development is Tomiyasu’s departure from Arsenal. The Gunners terminated Tomiyasu’s contract by mutual consent recently. Tomiyasu will now be a free agent and play football somewhere else.
Terminating his contract makes sense. Tomiyasu has struggled mightily with injuries since joining the club. Additionally, he won’t return from his most recent injury until late 2025. Also, moving on is best for Arsenal and Tomiyasu. Hopefully, Tomiyasu can return to full fitness and enjoy a productive career elsewhere.
Arsenal Summer Business Part 2: The Gunners Turn Their Focus to Gyokeres
Also, there is now clarity about Arsenal’s efforts to sign a striker. It seems that the club favors Gyokeres instead of Sesko at this point. Reports indicate Andrea Berta has contacted Sporting and Gyokeres’ representatives in recent days to discuss the transfer.
Viktor Gyokeres apparently wants to join Arsenal. It is unlikely that personal terms would be an issue. However, Arsenal will have to agree to a fair transfer fee with Sporting. That fee will likely be in the 75-80 million pound range. Hopefully, there will be more developments on this front soon.
Arsenal Moves Forward with Transfer Business Ahead of Preseason
The Gunners’ preseason begins on July 19th. Arteta wants Arsenal to sign a striker before then. As such, there will likely be major developments with Gyokeres soon. Check back next week for more Arsenal transfer news.
