The Heat demolished the Trailblazers 142-82 to improve to 40-33 this season. This is the biggest margin of victory in Miami Heat history. The Trailblazers are in the early stages of a rebuild, but this is still an incredible win for the Heat. Let’s dive deeper into this historic win.
Heat 2024 Season Part 18: The Heat’s Offense Steamrolled the Blazers
The Heat’s offense has been far from overwhelming overall this season, but the Blazers’ defense had no answer for the Heat in this game. As a result, the Heat scored 142 points on 58.7% shooting from the field and 53.8% from three-point range. Obviously, the Blazers’ effort on defense was woefully inadequate.
It’s clear that the Blazers either weren’t ready for this game defensively or don’t mind lopsided losses in the midst of their rebuilds’ beginning at this point in the season. It is worth noting that the Blazers have been eliminated from playoff contention for a while.
Bam Adebayo had 21 points, Terry Rozier had 22 points, Haywood Highsmith had 20 points, and Patty Mills scored 17 points. Thomas Bryant was the Heat’s leading scorer in this incredibly lopsided victory with 26 points. Performances like this help explain the appeal of Thomas Bryant Heat merchandise.
Jaime Jaquez contributed 12 points, three rebounds, five assists, and a steal in his return from injury.
The Heat’s Defense Kept the Blazers’ Offense Ice Cold
Limiting a team to only 82 points is rare in the modern NBA. That remains true even when a playoff team plays a rebuilding team. The Heat’s defense was suffocating in this game, holding the Blazers to 82 points on 40.2% shooting from the field and 16.7% shooting from three-point range.
Additionally, the Heat pressured the Blazers into 24 turnovers. This meant that the Blazers couldn’t establish any sort of offensive rhythm. Quite a few Heat players had multiple steals, including Adebayo, Butler, Jovic, and Mills. It isn’t particularly surprising that the young Blazers team couldn’t handle the defensive pressure from the Heat.
However, it is great to see the Heat play such excellent defense as the playoffs draw nearer.
The Heat Essentially Ended the Game by Halftime
It’s no secret that the Heat have started off slowly in some games this season. Despite this, the Heat did the exact opposite in this game against the Blazers. The Heat outscored the Blazers by double digits in the first two quarters and built up a 34-point lead by halftime.
The Blazers never recovered and the game turned into the most lopsided win in Miami Heat history.
