The Heat’s offseason has now begun, even though the playoffs are still in progress. There are Donovan Mitchell trade rumors in addition to news about Caleb Martin and Heat assistant coach Chris Quinn. Let’s dive into everything.

Heat 2024 Offseason Part 1: Caleb Martin Will Likely Leave in Free Agency

Caleb Martin has enjoyed a notable rise since joining the Miami Heat. He was a significant contributor for the Miami Heat last season as they defied expectations and made the NBA Finals. Those contributions include a clutch shot over Giannis in the first round of the 2023 playoffs. Some merchandise even pays tribute to that. However, Martin might not be in Miami for much longer.

Caleb Martin can and likely will explore his options in free agency. Given the Heat’s salary cap situation, they might not be able to offer him the money that he wants. It would be a shame to lose an important role player like Martin for nothing. We’ll see what happens, but it seems unlikely that Caleb Martin will be a member of the Miami Heat next season.

The Lakers Might Hire Heat Assistant Coach Chris Quinn As Their New Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers recently fired Darvin Ham after losing to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. It is clear that the Lakers have interest in several head coach candidates, including Jason Kidd. JJ Reddick, a former NBA player, current NBA commentator, and co-host of a podcast with Lebron James is also a candidate. Reportedly, though, the Lakers also have interest in Heat assistant coach Chris Quinn.

Chris Quinn played for the Heat for six season and has served as one of the team’s assistant coaches since 2014. Quinn has filled in for Spoelstra when Spoelstra was unavailable. It is clear that Quinn is the Heat’s top assistant coach. A head coaching position with the Lakers is surely appealing to Quinn, but hopefully, he stays with the Heat.

Heat 2024 Offseason Part 1: Donovan Mitchell Is a Trade Target for the Heat

The Celtics recently eliminated the Cavaliers from the playoffs in the second round. As a result, the Cavs have now entered their offseason. Donovan Mitchell will likely request a trade from the Cavs this offseason and reports indicate that the Heat are on his list of preferred destinations.

Of course, other teams are interested, too. The Heat would likely have to give up Tyler Herro, several picks, and possibly a few other players to make this trade work. Acquiring Donovan Mitchell would improve the Heat’s offense immensely and the Heat should make this trade as long as the Cavs don’t demand Bam Adebayo be included in the trade package.

There Could Be More Developments Soon

Neither a Donovan Mitchell trade or Caleb Martin leaving in free agency can happen until the offseason officially starts. However, there could be more developments about Heat coach Chris Quinn soon. Check back next week for more Miami Heat content.
