The NBA recently announced the All-Defensive and All-Rookie Teams. Bam Adebayo was selected for the All-Defensive First Team for the first time in his career. Also, Jaime Jaquez is part of the All-Rookie First Team. The two of them thoroughly deserve this recognition. It is especially great to see Jaquez receive this recognition, since his rookie season is one of the main positives from the Heat’s 2023-24 season. Without further ado, let’s dive deeper into this recognition for Adebayo and Jaquez.
Heat 2024 Offseason Part 2: Bam Adebayo Deserves His All-Defensive First Team Selection
Bam Adebayo is one of the best defenders in the entire NBA. The metrics all clearly show that, as does the eye test. However, Adebayo missed out on the Defensive Player of the Year award, with Rudy Gobert winning it for the fourth time. Additionally, Adebayo finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Thankfully, Adebayo did make the All-Defensive First Team.
That is the first time Adebayo has made it onto the All-Defensive First Team, although he has made the All-Defensive Second Team four times so far. Also, Adebayo is now the best player on the Miami Heat, given Jimmy Butler’s age and recent injury issues. Adebayo’s two-way abilities and demeanor mean that he is one of the team’s most popular players.
Hopefully, the Heat recognize that Adebayo is now the team’s best player and make moves to build a contending team around him.
Jaime Jaquez Made All-Rookie First Team
Additionally, Jaime Jaquez Jr. was selected to the All-Rookie First Team. Jaquez averaged 11.9 points, one steal, 2.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game in his rookie season. Jaquez also deserves praise for his excellent defense throughout his rookie season. The Heat drafted Jaquez with the 18th overall pick, so his inclusion on the All-Rookie First Team is impressive.
One can only hope that Jaquez continues to improve in his second season with the Miami Heat.
