The Heat have not been very active in 2025 free agency and did not trade for Kevin Durant. We discussed this in our previous article. However, the Heat have made some moves now. Without further ado, let’s discuss the Heat’s early moves in our Heat 2025 offseason part 2 article.

Heat 2025 Offseason Part 2: The Heat Re-Signed Davion Mitchell

Retaining Davion Mitchell was a major priority for the Heat. He was one of the team’s few bright spots in the 2024-25 season. Thankfully, he stays with the Heat.

The Heat re-signed Mitchell to a two-year, $24 million contract. This is a fair contract and ensures that the Heat won’t have to replace his contributions to the team. Additionally, the Heat now don’t have to worry about him during 2026 free agency, where the team could make major moves.

However, the Heat didn’t retain all of their core players.

The Heat Sent Duncan Robinson to Detroit in a Sign-and-Trade

After Duncan Robinson exercised his contract’s early termination option, it was fairly likely that he would leave the team. That is what happened. The Heat completed a sign-and-trade involving Robinson, sending him to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Simone Fontecchio.

Duncan Robinson is one of the Heat’s biggest success stories in recent stories. Robinson went from an undrafted player to one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA. Also, he should help the Pistons next season.

Alternatively, Fontecchio is a good role player and shoots 36% from three-point range for his career. Additionally, Fontecchio should provide the Heat with spacing next season, at the very least. Also, this trade also preserves the Heat’s 2026 cap space, since Fontecchio’s contract runs out after the 2025-26 NBA season.

A Miami Heat team without Duncan Robinson seems strange, but that is now the reality.

Heat 2025 Offseason Part 2: The Heat Now Have An Opportunity to Sign Damian Lillard

The Bucks’ decision to waive and stretch Damian Lillard’s contract is perhaps the most surprising move of the 2025 NBA offseason thus far. No one expected Lillard to be a free agent now. However, it gives the Heat an opportunity to sign Lillard.

Given Lillard’s recent injury, the Heat might not sign him right away. Despite this, they now have a chance to add Lillard without giving up any assets whatsoever. Time will tell if the Heat decide to do this.

This Is Only the Start of the Offseason

It is important to note that 2025 NBA free agency only began recently. Hopefully, the Heat will make more moves soon. Check back next week for more Miami Heat coverage.
