Quite a bit has happened since our previous Arsenal article. Arsenal remained on top of the Premier League for the most part, but surrendered top spot to Manchester City following consecutive defeats against AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. However, Arsenal recovered by winning four consecutive games without conceding a single goal. Meanwhile, Manchester City dropped points against Everton and AFC Bournemouth. As a result, Arsenal have won the 2025-26 Premier League title. Without further ado, let’s dive deeper into this glorious title victory in our Arsenal Report 3: Champions! article.
Arsenal Report 3: Champions | The Defense
It’s only fitting to discuss Arsenal’s defense first of all when talking about this historic title win. The Gunners have kept 19 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, the most in the league. David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and arguably in all of world football. Despite his size (six feet tall), Raya is aggressive, physical, and has unbelievable reflexes. He has made crucial and often incredible saves all season long. He is only the fourth player to win three Golden Glove Awards. Arsenal doesn’t win the league without him.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have become one of the best center-back partnerships in Premier League history. They compliment each other nearly perfectly and stifle opposition attacks with intelligence, aggression, and passionate defending. As it stands, they have kept 56 Premier League clean sheets together in total. That is only 14 clean sheets behind the all-time record for a center-back partnership. Arsenal only conceded 27 goals in 38 Premier League games this season and a large part of the credit goes to these two brilliant defenders.
Mosquera, Hincapie, Ben White, and Calafiori all deserve massive credit, too. Gabriel and Saliba both missed time due to injury, but Mosquera and Hincapie stepped up and slotted in for them brilliantly. Mosquera and Hincapie have proven to be shrewd signings. White, despite his injury issues, delivered some excellent performances. Calafiori is one of Arsenal’s most improved players this season, especially defensively. His block against Everton is one of the most spectacular and crucial pieces of Arsenal defending this season.
However, Arsenal’s defense is far from the only reason they won the English Premier League.
How Arsenal Won the Premier League: Elite Discipline
There were several reasons why Arsenal didn’t win the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season. One of them was poor discipline. Arsenal picked up the most red cards in the Premier League that season. That cost them valuable points.
Arteta and his staff clearly recognized that issue. By contrast, in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, Arsenal didn’t receive a single red card or concede a single penalty. Arsenal made history as the first team in the Premier League era to do so. That made a massive difference, especially since Arsenal won many tight games by one or two goals.
How Arsenal Won the Premier League: Being Excellent in the Run-in
With five games remaining, Arsenal and Manchester City were tied with 70 points. However, Manchester City was at the top of the league thanks to scoring more league goals than Arsenal. Following back-to-back defeats, including one away at Manchester City, many people felt the Gunners had ‘bottled’ the title race. Arsenal didn’t. Declan Rice declared, “It’s not over,” at the end of the Arsenal-Manchester City game at the Etihad.
Rice’s words proved true. Arsenal won five consecutive games, including a 1-0 home win against Burnley that put the Gunners on the cusp of the title. Manchester City drew away against Bournemouth, and the title was secured for Arsenal. Arsenal’s mental toughness and resilience deserves major praise, since they showed they had what it takes to bounce back from serious adversity. Meanwhile, Manchester City drew with Everton and Bournemouth in the final five games. Arsenal finished seven points clear of City as Guardiola’s team lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
Arsenal Report 3: Champions! | How Arsenal Won the League: An Underappreciated Attack
Arsenal’s defense deserves significant credit for the league title win. However, Arsenal scored 71 goals in the Premier League, second only to Manchester City, who scored 77. Viktor Gyokeres was Arsenal’s leading scorer in the Premier League, scoring 14 league goals. Eberechi Eze also scored some crucial goals, including winning goals against Newcastle and Crystal Palace. Eze made history by becoming the first Arsenal player to score a hat-trick in a North London Derby in over 40 years. The former Palace man recorded a hat-trick in his North London derby debut at the Emirates, finding the back of the net three times in a 4-1 Arsenal win.
Arsenal’s attack goes under the radar a bit, but it was elite, just like the defense.
